About the Fund

The Lindy Hopper’s Fund of America is a nonprofit, national human services organization that helps our elder generation of Lindy Hoppers who danced at the Savoy Ballroom in Harlem, in theater, film and on television.  Through a broad spectrum of social, health and housing programs The Lindy Hopper’s Fund will address their essential and critical needs.

The Lindy Hopper’s Fund Social Services Assistance offers a comprehensive program designed to meet critical needs. We will provide crisis intervention, individual and family needs assessments, and development of long-term plans including ongoing support, education, information and referrals.  In addition, financial assistance can be provided for essential living expenses such as rent, utilities or medical costs.

Executive Summary

We are seeking funding to add to our previous donations. Our annual revenue will continue with a combination of memberships, admissions to programs, fundraising activities, and city, county, and state grants.

We have already formed several strategic alliances with various organizations and businesses that will help or have helped to make the Lindy Hopper's Fund a success. During the first year of The Fund, our goals are in five main categories:

  1. Providing a successful Kick-off event;
  2. Generating earned revenue from a combination of ticket sales for the Kick-off event and additional fundraising;
  3. Keeping gross profit margins high;
  4. Raising substantial percentages of revenue from grant sources to develop and maintain membership level;
  5. Including outreach as a main goal to include various audiences.

Our core audience for The Lindy Hopper's Fund is the person who appreciates dance, the arts and Lindy Hop in particular, and is interested in helping to provide financial and social assistance to our elder generation of Lindy Hoppers.

There is no organization that currently provides the services and emphasis that TLHF will provide. The Fund is filling an important gap in providing assistance. Our hard core Lindy Hopper audience will be pleased to know that programming will be aimed at providing immediate direct support to the elders they hold in the deepest respect, reverence and appreciation.

With our singular focus on providing assistance, we have a solid direction and we are positioned to act as the premiere resource for those in need. Therefore a focus will be on these benefits of visiting and providing assistance.

Run for years by a volunteer Board of Directors, the Houston Swing Dance Society will expand the team to include an Operations Manager for The Fund. As always, there will be a need for volunteers in several capacities, and the volunteer Board will play a big part in organizing this area. The Fund’s management will be expanded and developed by the Board of Directors to make available expert advice, donations of in-kind and products and services.
